Kim Hardwick

BOARD SECRETARY

It was with great sadness that we learned of our beloved Kim’s unexpected passing on April 15th, 2019. As a Queens native and product of the NYC public school system, Kim Hardwick began her career as an English teacher in 1992 at the high school from which she graduated, Franklin K. Lane, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She then taught at Copiague High School for ten years before stepping into administration. She has served as a 6-12 English Coordinator (Garden City, NY), and K-12 ELA Director (Hauppauge, NY), and then became the proud principal of Clayton Huey Elementary in Center Moriches for six years until her passing. She was a passionate leader working closely with the teachers and children of TIMBER NWANTA VILLAGE.

Since the implementation of the CCLS, she has been an advocate of higher standards and works collaboratively with educators and parents to ensure an understanding of the Standards and empowers teachers to make critical decisions to implement a differentiated, quality curriculum to meet them.  As result of her work and leadership with the Common Core, she has served as a National Fellow for America Achieves and is the Lead Fellow for NY Ed Voice, the NYS Fellowship for America Achieves. Additionally, Kim serves as a Teacher Champion for the Collaborative for Student Success and promotes the elevation of educator voice in policy making and school reform. Kim is trained as a Core Advocate with Student Achievement Partners, and is eager to elevate her voice for the benefit of children across the globe as evidenced by her work with L.E.A.P. (Literacy Empowerment and Action Project), an organization developed to improve literacy and educational opportunities in Ghana, Africa. She is committed to making a difference in the lives of children and sees higher standards as a response, and part of the solution, to the inequities that have existed in education.
